In late November 2015 we contacted Australiawide Boat Sales regarding a new listing they had for a 47ft cutter rigged ketch named Wind-F-Change. The first person we spoke with was Detlef Bauer.

Now just so you know, up to this point we had had nothing but sour experiences with Boat Brokers up and down the coast over an 18month period. We felt that no-one wanted to sell us a boat & we had cash! Most of the brokers did not go out of their way and some were not even prepared to show us a boat on the weekends. So considering we worked Mon – Fri we were out of luck. We also looked at some boats being sold privately but after encountering a less than honest seller we decided it was just too risky to pursue private sales.

Now back to our encounter with Australiawide Boat Sales and in particular Detlef. He was a breath of fresh air! He was quick to act and had no hesitation in showing us the boat early the next morning (Saturday). The wonderful thing about dealing with Detlef is that he is extremely knowledgeable but also professional and yet forthcoming and helpful. I know the story goes that the Broker works for the Seller but in this case you would forgive us for thinking he also had our best interests at heart.

We jumped on this boat and put in our offer. Detlef could have waited till Monday to call the seller however he called him that same day and within a few minutes and some negotiation we had a deal dependent on surveys. Detlef organised the haul out and the sea trials to happen on the same day two weeks later. It is also Australiawide Boat Sales custom to organize the gas survey as well.

Well, we bought our beautiful Wind-F-Change and the process could not have been easier – Thank You Detlef for your helpfulness, honesty and professionalism.

When we were a just about to give up on our quest to find the perfect boat (for us) Detlef was our ray of sunshine!

Follow-up: We moved aboard at the end of January 2016 and continue to live at East Coast Marina. During our time here there have been several times where we just needed some advice or a referral for a tradesperson and Detlef has always been happy to help.

We bought a Farr 6000 from australiawide a few months ago and were very impressed with the professional way that Detlef guided us through the sale process, helping us to organise insurance, registration, a survey and the lease of a hard stand. We would certainly recommend australiawide to others buying a boat.

After carefull consideration we decided to buy a yacht in Queensland to take advantage of the wonderful weather and sailing opportunities.

We are actually New Zealanders – hoping for early retirement – who want to spent some time in the beautiful waters of Australia, away from the cold and wet of New Zealand. So we hopped on a plane, got to Manly and met quiet a few brokers. How disappointing – nothing they showed us came even close to our dream. Until we saw "Meander" at East Coast Marina. We could not help but to come back for a second look.

DETLEF BAUER from Australiawide Boat Sales gave us all the information we needed. He assessed us as people who would match this type of boat immediately and started negotiations between the seller and us in a most professional way. We had the feeling that he has the gift to work for both parties equally well and his sensible advice and understanding of "human nature" made it possible to come to an agreement, that suited us all. Detlef worked on our contract with knowledge and expertise. He made arrangements with the surveyor, the insurance and organised a suitable berth.
At the moment we are not able to use the boat as much as we want, as we still have obligations in NZ. During our absence Detlef offered to keep an eye on our "baby" and we are in contact via e-mail to keep each other up to date.

With a cheeky smile in our faces we regard Detlef as our "god-father" of "Meander", who looks after her, when "mum" and "dad" can’t be there. What a great feeling!!!!!!!
