I recently purchased a yacht via Detlef Bauer of Australiawide and would like to offer my compliments on the service.

I was looking for an offshore-capable yacht and was fairly specific in my requirements. The photos of the yacht that caught my attention clearly showed the need for remedial work to bring her up to scratch.

Learning of my desire to sail her out of Australia through the islands to New Zealand, Detlef was careful to convey a balanced opinion of the yacht’s condition and potential. (Only later did he divulge an extensive resume of offshore experience that certainly qualified him.)

Six weeks later when I finally saw the yacht I had purchased sight unseen, I found her to be much as advertised and was pleased with my purchase.

I must also thank Detlef for his untiring service that carried on long after the sale was concluded. This has been especially welcome for an overseas buyer such as myself preparing to take a vessel offshore.

We would like to congratulate Detlef who listened to us whilst we explained that we were selling our beloved Steel Sapphire after 10 fabulous years of cruising and exploring the Med, Caribbean and Pacific Islands.
He matched up the perfect couple who were looking for a safe blue water yacht like ours.
Long story short, they saw it, fell in love with it and it was all plain sailing and with all paperwork, surveys and formalities completed we were finished within a month of arriving in the marina and we were able to start our touring in a campervan.
We were quite worried by all the horror stories about selling a British boat in Australia but thanks to Detlef it was quite painless.

We bought our boat through Euan at Australiawide Manly in 2006 and enjoyed cruising the east coast and several months living aboard until we returned to Manly in 2011. Euan and Detlef really match clients to boats.

Back in late October / Early November 2015 my husband called Australiawide Boat Sales regarding a new listing they had for a 47ft Cutter Rigged Ketch called Wind-F-Change. From that first phone call till the hand over of our new home we were treated exceptionally well by Australiawide boat sales and in particular Detleif.
We had been searching for over 12months and were quite frankly appalled at the treatment we had received by other boat brokers / salesmen in South East Qld. They either never returned a call or were just not interested enough to want to sell us a boat.Infact we were about to give up and look in other regions for our boat.

But Detleif was our ray of sunshine. People told us to remember that the broker works for the seller, however, Detleif made us feel as though he was working for us as well. Punctual, efficient and “on the ball” he negotiated our offer directly to the owner on that first day we saw the boat. He also organised survey, haul out and sea trials to happen all on the one day. Detleif advised the seller of a realistic price he could expect to get for the boat, unlike others in the area had done which in doing so meant a quick sale for the seller and a fair price for us.
Since purchasing our lovely Wind-F-Change, Detleif has continued to be helpful with referrals etc or just when we had a question or two about something we did not understand on the boat. If he doesn’t know he’s always ready with a referral to someone who does. Plus his knowledge and experience with yachts is amazing.
