Designed by Des Townson and built by Austral Yachts NZ, Karma III is a masthead sloop launched around 1978. Its ballast ratio combined with a powerful hull form provides great stability. According to the designer, the lines are such that the stability does not reduce the yacht's speed and the balance and performance is maintained through a wide range of conditions. The current owner has installed a second hand 20 hp Bukh marine diesel that swings a 2 blade fixed pitch propellor that starts first time. The interior timber fitout is in average condition but the upholstery covers need replacing as well as fitting new floor coverings. The age of the mast and standing rigging are unknown so it is recommended that the prospective buyer obtain a condition report from a qualified yacht rigger. It has a double vee berth forward and two quarter berths aft that don't have cushions. There is a plinth in the head for a toilet to be fitted as well as a plough anchor, chain and a Muir windlass. The sails are in fair condition and it comes with a fibreglass dinghy. For her age it presents quite well but it would certainly benefit from some TLC from a enthusiastic new owner who would then, own a very capable coastal cruising vessel.
