Details
This attractive Colin Childs designed Rhumb Runner was a labour of love for her builders who first laid her keel back in 1995. For over 20 years she's been meticulously constructed with obvious care to detail shown throughout. She was eventually launched as 'Whisper' in 2018 and sold to her current owner who completed her fit out. Renamed Cygnet II, she was intended to be sailed to Hobart Tasmania for the Wooden Boat Festival in 2021 but the unexpected surprises of 2020 changed all plans, and instead her owner (who's now looking for a much bigger boat) sailed her solo from Bundaberg to Manly Harbour Qld to be sold.
What Cygnet II offers is a pretty profile, spacious cockpit and beautiful solid timbers housing a cosy interior. She has seating below for six adults, there are two single-bed-sized quarter berths and an additional two guests can be accommodated in the saloon. There's an enormous amount of storage space throughout, including a huge forepeak. The Queensland Maple & Fijian Kauri joinery throughout is superb, the upholstery is of very high quality and is well ventilated via a large opening forward hatch and her beautiful traditional bronze ports. She's packed full of goodies, including a 28hp Kubota diesel with dripless shaft seal, high quality electronics, excellent electrical systems, portable solar panel, AGM deep cycle batteries, LED lighting throughout, a 'Blue Seas' electrical management system and tiller pilot.
The best bit is that she sails so beautifully. Her full length lead ballasted keel with cutaway fore and keel hung rudder makes for a well balanced, responsive and very sea kindly sailing vessel. A well designed rig and lovely sail plan along with her sleek hull makes for a nice turn of speed too.
